The showrunner of 9-1-1 has teased what fans can expect from Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) in season nine.

9-1-1 will return for season nine next month and will see the beloved characters attempt to move on from the death of Bobby (Peter Krause) last season.

Among the plot lines set to be explored is a Halloween episode centred around Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the series’ showrunner Tim Minear shared details of how it will involve around fan favourite characters Buck and Eddie, aka ‘Buddie’.

“It really opened up for me just some great possibilities for Eddie and I’m really excited about that one,” Minear told EW. “Buck is quick to believe things, but Eddie might be quick to believe things now too.

“I know he always sort of poo-pooed those things, and kind of walked away from his faith, but I think there may be a spiritual awakening in Eddie’s future.”

In last season’s Halloween episode “Masks”, Buck’s attempt at providing some Halloween props to the 118 Firehouse backfired when the Mummy he acquired seemed cursed. First Buck dislocated his shoulder and then he woke to find his face covered in boils. In an attempt to break the curse Buck and his former boyfriend, Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr), go to the grave of outlaw William James McCurdy aka Billy Boils (the body found in Buck’s ‘prop’ Mummy).

Buck and Tommy broke up in the very next episode. However, Buck and Eddie’s relationship developed over the season and season nine looks like it could be the time for their romance to flourish… We certainly hope so.

Fans have been shipping Buck and Eddie – “Buddie” – since Guzman’s character joined the show back in 2018, with the firefighters and best friends sharing an undeniable chemistry.

Stark has said in the past he’d be open to exploring a potential romance if it’s “the right story to tell”. Speaking to Deadline in May, Stark addressed the beloved fan “ship” explaining that he would only be interested in the two best friends getting together if it follows a “natural progression” of the story.
