It’s A Sin star Callum Scott Howells has signed up to lead new Channel 4 thriller Deadpoint, about a group of far-right extremists plotting a violent act in the Welsh mountains in Snowdonia.
Callum Scott Howells, who was BAFTA winning for his heart wrenching role as Colin Morris-Jones in Russell T Davies 2021 drama It’s a Sin, will star in the production as grieving, guilt-ridden climber Aaron.
The five-part action-thriller sees Aaron leave his hometown in Wales for a year abroad following an accident during a mountain expedition, which kills a much-loved friend and member of his climbing group.
Aaron blames himself for the incident, and so jets off. On his return, he’s forced to face his new-found “pathological fear of climbing” when his sister and fellow climber Seren (Little Women actress Annes Elwy) fails to return from one of her routine climbs.
Aaron heads back up the mountains, unknowingly coming into contact with the so-called Justice Crusade, a group of far-right extremists led by “unstable former soldier Fairweather”, played by What It Feels Like For A Girl star, Michael Socha.

Justice Crusade are “united by their beliefs and their mutual need for belonging” but Fairweather’s jaw-dropping plans for the mountains lead to fractures in the outcast group, “making them even more volatile and dangerous”.
Adolescence star Christine Tremarco plays Detective Natasha Evermore, who also heads up the Welsh mountains in search of the treacherous group, fearing they are planning something explosive.
“As these disparate stories converge on this remote landscape a unique thriller emerges, exploring themes of loss, radicalisation and survival,” reads an official synopsis.
“A wilderness thriller wrapped around an emotional core, Deadpoint is a literal cliffhanger, grounded in the tensions existing in our society today, exploring who we are, who we pretend to be, and what we do when the rope snaps.”
Deadpoint, which has just begun filming in Wales, is produced by Clerkenwell Films, best known for its work on Baby Reindeer and The End of the F***ing World. Marco Kreuzpaintner (The Lazarus Project) and Laura Scrivano (Wedding Season) will direct, while debut writer Matt Hartley has written the series.

Following on from his role as the loveable Collin in It’s A Sin, Howells has appeared in dramas including The Way alongside Luke Evans, and on the West End as Emcee in Cabaret.
He won a 2022 BAFTA Cymru award for playing Colin, plus a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 BAFTAs. He also scored a win in the acting category of the 2022 Royal Television Society Programme Awards.
No release date for Deadpoint has been announced yet.
