Bisexual icon and Hacks star Hannah Einbinder topped off her Emmy awards speech with a partially censored declaration: “Go birds, f**k ICE and free Palestine.”

On Sunday (14 September), the 30-year-old stand-up comedian and Hacks actor condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza as she cradled her Supporting Actress Emmy.

In HBO’s Hacks, the 30-year-old actress plays a young writer who teams up with an ageing comedian (Jean Smart). The pair try to liven up the comedian’s material and become unlikely friends during the process.

Hannah Einbinder’s speech was met with loud applause; her call-out of ICE (the US’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement) came after the organisation dramatically increased immigration raids.

Additionally, she referenced her loyal support for the American football team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Backstage, Einbinder was also asked about her concluding statement. She elaborated: “I have friends in Gaza who are working as frontline workers, as doctors, right now in the north of Gaza, to provide care for pregnant women, and [working] for schoolchildren to create schools in the refugee camps.

“It’s an issue that’s really close to my heart for many reasons.

Is Hacks returning for season five?

Hacks will be back for season five, but sadly, it will be the show’s last series.

On the red carpet, Hannah Einbinder confirmed that season five would bid farewell to the below characters.

“We’re going to start [filming] next week, and knowing it’s the last season is really bittersweet,” she explained.

“But I think it’s right, you know? It’s nice to do something as many times as it should be done. Not overstay your welcome. Rip it and do it and laugh and cry.”

The show’s creators, Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs have often said they’ve considered Hacks a five season series. However, HBO Max has not officially confirmed the news.
