RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Jan on potential franchise return: ‘I have more to show, for sure’

RuPaul’s Drag Race double alumni and OSCAR at the Crown star Jan has revealed whether she’d be up for round three in the Werk Room, and reflected on her experience on the show.
The world changed when Jan strutted into the Werk Room on season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, bringing with her a signature brand of prep, polish and powerhouse vocals.
Jan became a firm fan favourite, but was eliminated in eighth place, narrowly missing a few challenge victories, but snatching the hearts of viewers, many of whom thought she was ‘robbed’ in more than one episode.
She later returned for All Stars 6, and while she did end up snatching a challenge win for her legendary Lady Gaga impersonation, she didn’t make the finale then, either, even admitting that she and RuPaul simply “weren’t on the same page”.
Speaking to PinkNews ahead of her UK musical debut in OSCAR at the Crown from frequent collaborator Andrew Barret Cox, Jan has answered whether she would return to the pink-walled Werk Room once more.
“It’s been interesting going back and forth and thinking about it,” she admits via Zoom. “What I would want to do, at this moment in time, it’s giving: ‘Yeah, I would definitely consider going back.'”
Jan is not without her reservations, however, continuing: “I think, however, I definitely could have been give some more grace [on the show], and some flowers, here and there,” referencing RuPaul’s reaction to her on the show.
“I also think I’m a very different person and performer than I was when I went on the show. Now, in my drag career, this is my ninth year doing drag, I got on the show when I was only three years into drag,” she continued.
“I’ve learned so much about myself, and I have more to show, for sure. I only think that it would bring me good things.”
But Jan does have one caveat for returning to RuPaul’s Drag Race – which is that she would have to have the time free in the first place. And anyone that’s been keeping up with the Jantasy knows that the diva is booked and blessed.
“I’m up for the challenge, unless I book a Broadway show before then. Then, they’ll have missed the boat, for sure. Whoever comes calling first? That’s where I’ll go.”
Jan is currently starring in OSCAR at the Crown in her UK musical debut. The show, a “theatrical dance party experience,” takes audience into a bunker in the heart of Liverpool Street, London, to live in an Orwellian future where “the only things to survive are reality TV, glitter balls, and the complete works of Oscar Wilde.”
Jan plays the late gay author Oscar Wilde himself – though not all is as it seems – until 30 October.
