Fans divided over ‘rushed’ The Summer I Turned Pretty finale

Spoiler alert: This article contains major spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty finale.

It’s over. The Summer I Turned Pretty is done and dusted and with it an emotional final episode that has got fans feeling all the emotions.

“At Last” wraps up the story of Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) and her relationship with the Fisher brothers, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), and Conrad (Christopher Briney).

The love triangle has played out over three seasons, with the final series starting looking as though Team Jeremiah might come out on top. However, there’s been a fierce debate between fans for the show’s duration as to which brother Belly should end up with.

In the books the show is based on, Belly ends up with Conrad but the show’s creators have hinted before that the series could end differently. So, did it?

Well, in the end, Belly and Conrad did get together. After following Belly to Paris, Conrad finally confesses his feelings. While he’s initially rejected, Belly realises how she feels and in true rom-com fashion chases him down at a major transport hub (here, a Paris train station) and confesses her feelings.

“I choose you of my own free will. If there are infinite worlds, every version of me chooses you in every one of them,” Belly says as she and Conrad choose one another.

And it’s not an unhappy ending for Jeremiah, who seems to be on the right rack with Denise (Isabella Briggs).

After the finale aired, fans took to social media to share their reactions. “BONRAD NATION WE WON.,” wrote one Reddit user. “I love the ending. But man I’m so sad it’s over,” added another.

On TikTok someone called the finale, “the best ending of a series I’ve ever seen.” One person semi-agreed writing, “it was sweet,” but adding, “i feel like there was a lot missing.” A popular view was “Perfection. 10/10,” while others posted sentiments like, “The ending made me happy but could have been a lot less rushed.”

On one TikTok someone commented on one clip from the finale, “THANK GOD SHE PICKED HIM [Conrad] AND NOT HERSELF.” Another viewer celebrated that “WAR IS OVERRRR” between Teams Jeremiah and Conrad.

And someone else added, “We got the ending we wanted. I know there was a lot that was left off but Belly and Conrad being together was the true ending.”

One person said, “It felt so rushed everything.” Another person on TikTok said, “i hated this episode:(( so many open questions and not enough scenes of conrad and belly!!”

At the start of season three Prime Video had to issue warnings and reminders for how people should behave online. It came after a backlash from some in the fandom towards Casalegno and the prospect that Belly might end up with Jeremiah.

It reached such a level during the season’s run that Prime Video reissued those warnings.
