US president Donald Trump has said he would have “no problem” with removing LGBTQ+ Pride flags from Washington DC streets.

In the Oval Office on Monday (15 September, Marjorie Taylor Greene’s partner, Brian Glenn, who is the Chief White House correspondent of Real America’s Voice network, showed Trump an image of a Progress Pride flag, which he incorrectly claimed was a ‘trans flag’.

He asked Trump he would consider requiring the removal of the flag, which was displayed on Washington DC’s 14th Street – known for its LGBTQ-friendly nightlife and businesses.

“A lot of people are very threatened by this flag. It means a lot of different negative things to people, violence,” Glenn, who was previously exposed for dressing in drag, despite his partner Greene being anti-drag, claimed.

Trump responded: “Well, I wouldn’t be. [But] then they’ll sue, and they’ll get freedom of speech stuff. So that’ll happen. But I would have no problem with it.”

Trump went on to compare the issue to burning the US flag, which he called “an incitement” to violence. In August, the US president attempted to make it a crime to burn an American flag through an executive order.

The executive order stated: “My Administration will act to restore respect and sanctity to the American Flag and prosecute those who incite violence or otherwise violate our laws while desecrating this symbol of our country, to the fullest extent permissible under any available authority.”

Glenn went on to urge Trump to label those using the Progress Pride flag as a “a domestic terrorist group”.

Trump responded, “I think you probably could. Again, you’ll be sued, and it’s okay. I’ve been sued before a couple of times.”
