In long-feared but long-suspected news, RuPaul’s Drag Race star Katya has confirmed that web series UNHhhh, with Trixie Mattel, is ‘over’.

Though Katya and frequent collaborator Trixie Mattel were introduced to viewers via RuPaul’s Drag Race season seven, the pair truly took the internet by storm on the long-running, World of Wonder-produced web series UNHhhh.

The pair talked about a different topic each episode, because it was their show, and not ours, with nothing but a green screen, funky editing and the ability to yap for a staggering 229 episodes over the course of eight seasons.

And despite a promise at the end of season eight in 2023 that UNHhhh would return, it has been relative radio silence on the show since then, apart from a surprising update this year and the resignation of producer Pete Williams in September.

But now, from the horse’s mouth herself (sorry, Katya), it has been confirmed that UNHhhh will not be returning.

Speaking on the Wild Wild Web podcast to host Eric Sedeno, Katya admitted: “I love [the UNHhhh team] so much, we’re not doing it any more though.”

After Sedeno asked: “Yeah, it’s over?” Katya explained exactly why it was time to retire the UNHhhh format.

“I think so,” she confirmed, with Sedeno pointing out that viewers are hardly starved for content of Trixie and Katya with their joint podcast The Bald and the Beautiful and their Netflix series I Who Like to Watch.

“That show was really hard to do, because there was no direction. And sometimes it would be horrible. I suggested we did ‘Lunch’ one day. And it was terrible.

“When you do that kind of improv, it can be quite exhausting to try to create something out of absolutely nothing, you know what I mean?

“And if you weren’t feeling it, like if you didn’t have a great outfit and hair, and you felt kinda ugly, it was horrible. The times we were both feeling it, it was really effortless and special.”

There you have it kids; looks like fear got the best of them.

Fans received an unexpected update earlier this year when World of Wonder (the production company behind RuPaul’s Drag Race) filed for copyright for UNHhhh season nine, leading fans to hope the series had a chance of resurrection.

Nothing materialised, though, and viewers were dealt another blow when Williams ‘parted ways’ with World of Wonder in late September.

Let’s pour one out for those disengaged temporal mandibular joints and chemical burns from the spiral perms.
