“Euro-Country” singer CMAT has postponed her UK tour due “throbbing pain” and an “infection” in her jaw that will require dental surgery.
The bisexual, Irish performer, born Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, was due to start her UK tour today (2 October) at Brixton’s O2 Academy in London.
In a statement posted on Wednesday evening (1 October), the country pop musician said she was “devastated” to have to reschedule all of the dates on the UK tour.
Sharing two photos of herself with a dramatically swollen jaw on Instagram, CMAT revealed that she has to have surgery to remove both of her lower wisdom teeth.
“I woke up today with a throbbing pain in my jaw and booked an emergency visit with my dentist. He has booked me in for surgery to remove both lower wisdom teeth next week and given me antibiotics to help with the infection,” she wrote in the caption.

“I am told the recovery period for my surgery is two weeks to allow me to heal, with a following short period to allow me get back to full health.”
CMAT confirmed that the tour was postponed rather than cancelled, and she is working with her team on rescheduled dates.
The BRIT Award-nominated star said that she was “so so sorry” for any inconveniences for her fans, but stressed the last minute rescheduling was essential as she “can’t even open [her] mouth wide enough to laugh”.
“If there was anything I could do I would do it, but I currently can’t even open my mouth wide enough to laugh let alone sing. I also can’t even chew any food for the foreseeable so if anybody can send ice cream and or soup recommendations they would be hugely appreciated,” she quipped.
“I am in so much pain right now that I can barely think straight enough to type.”
Rounding off her announcement, she joked: “RIP my back two wisdom teeth you would have loved Brixton Academy.”
CMAT confirmed that tickets would remain valid for new dates, while refunds will also be offered for those unable to make the rescheduled gigs.
CMAT released her third studio album Euro-Country in August to global critical acclaim, with publications including The Guardian and NME awarding it five out of five stars. The record topped the UK Charts and is currently nominated for a Mercury Prize for Album of the Year.
Ahead of the album’s release, the musician declared that her fans are “all Irish or lesbians”.
In May, following her performance at Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival, she hit out at online body shamers, after the BBC had to mute comments on a social media post covering her performance due to an influx of hateful remarks about her weight.
“I didn’t realise it was ILLEGAL to have a HUGE ASS !!!! i am GUILTY as CHARGED it is time to lock me up and throw away THE KEY!!!!!” she wrote in response.
“By the way I am an award winning songwriter that has released two albums which were received to ‘universal acclaim’.”
