Lukas Gage has opened up “the double whammy” of contracting two sexually transmitted infections (STIs) from an unnamed ex-partner.
The 30-year-old actor, known for his roles in The White Lotus and You, writes about the moment in his upcoming memoir, I Wrote This for Attention which is due to be released on 14 October.
Speaking to The New York Post about the incident Gage said that “it wasn’t that I was in opposition to having a non-monogamous relationship, it was just not talked about.”

He said contracting the STIs, both of which were treatable, “freaked me out and sent me into a spiral.” And it inspired him to be cautious and “do anything I can to protect myself.”
Reflecting on the whole incident, Gage said being honest was “the most important thing to do.” He recalled confronting his then-partner about the STIs who the You star said “was very much sticking to the lie.”
Gage also admitted: “I’ve been the person who was the cheater too,” and that “no one’s perfect.”
Gage shared that he’d tested regularly while single but had fallen out of the habit while in the relationship. He told The New York Post he was sticking to the recommended three month rule as part of being proactive on health measures.
Having partnered with Gilead to promote greater awareness about HIV testing and PrEP Gage said he takes Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis every day. The White Lotus star confronted misconceptions about taking the pill which lowers the risk of getting HIV through sex by 99%, saying that taking it is not a sign of being reckless.
“I don’t think that’s true,” he said. “I think it’s just the opposite, I think it’s being cautious and careful and feeling like I have ownership.”
Gage’s upcoming memoir will also go into his short-lived marriage to the celebrity hair stylist, Chris Appleton.
