Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa and Wicked‘s Cynthia Erivo are set to join forces in a new animated film.
Bad Fairies is described as “an original musical comedy that follows a delightfully subversive gang of fairies as they shake up their magical world”.
While Gatwa’s character is yet to be revealed, Erivo, best-known as wicked witch of the west Elphaba, will be voicing Jayne Staplegun, a trailblazing fairy whose defiant streak sparks a rebellion. The film, which is currently in production, is being directed by Megan Nicole Dong and Olivier Staphylas.
The soundtrack will include songs from Tony-winning duo Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. Isabella Summers, of Florence + The Machine fame, is also involved and KPop Demon Hunters composer Ian Eisendrath, who worked on the first Wicked film, is the executive music producer.
Gatwa will be flying in after leaving Doctor Who, a role he admitted had taken a physical toll on him.

Meanwhile, Erivo is building up to the release of Wicked: For Good, opposite Ariana Grande. It’s scheduled to be in cinemas at the end of next week.
They will be joined by Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater and Marissa Bode, with Colman Domingo recently announced to be voicing the Cowardly Lion.
Gatwa and Erivo were seen together on a press tour ahead of the publication of her Simply More: A Book for Anyone Who Has Been Told They’re Too Much, described as part-memoir, part-inspirational manual.
Erivo posted an image on Instagram with the caption: “A quick press tour intermission with 650 beautiful souls.
Gatwa shared the post, calling the night “pretty magical”.
Bad Fairies is due in cinemas on 21 May 2027.
