The first official RuPaul’s Drag Race film now has an official release date and an official title, and it sounds suitably wild, weird and whacky.
RuPaul will star as President Gagwell in action comedy caper Stop! That! Train! which is due for cinematic release in the US on 29 May 2026.
In addition to Mama Ru, Stop! That! Train! will feature a gaggle of Drag Race alumni, including recent All Stars 10 winner Ginger Minj.
Ginger will star alongside felly four-time Drag Race Ruturnee Jujubee as best friends and train attendees Tess and DeeDee, who swap working on their usual Stank Rail train for roles on the stunning Glamazonian Express.
Drag Race winner Symone, Canada’s Drag Race host Brooke Lynn Hytes, and Cabaret actor Marcia Marcia Marcia will play snotty first class attendants on the Glamazonia Express.
Fan favourite Drag Race icons including All Stars 4 winner Monet X Change and season four competitor Latrice Royale will also star.
The eyebrow-raising plot will see Tess and DeeDee having to join forces with the snobby attendants and President Gagwell following an impeding “Stormaganza” which threatens to derail the train as it hurtles towards Los Angeles.
Stop! That! Train! is directed by Hairspray director Adam Shankman, and is created in partnership between Bleecker Street, Universal Pictures, and Drag Race production company World of Wonder.
Filming on the blockbuster wrapped earlier this month, Deadline reports.
In a statement earlier this year, RuPaul said the role of President Gagwell was the role she was “born to play”, adding: “Finally, a role I can sink my dentures into.”
“I’ve had the greatest time shooting Stop! That! Train! with some of the most hilarious and game people out there, and we can’t wait to bring it to audiences nationwide next May,” Shankman said.
“I know I’ve needed to laugh now more than ever, and if you’re not howling during this one, I’m pretty sure you’re made of coal and possibly a descendant of the Grinch family!”
When the film was announced back in September, Shankman said that he couldn’t resist the opportunity to work with RuPaul on the “truly unhinged” movie.
“I’ve been friends with RuPaul for 30 years and in that time I’ve watched him and the folks at World of Wonder help change culture writ large with Drag Race,” he said.
“When they asked me to come aboard this hilarious and truly unhinged project, in a time so desperate for escapist entertainment and laughter, I couldn’t resist.”
