Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa has revealed why she was taken to hospital over the weekend, hours ahead of a huge Black Friday performance in Minnesota.

Siwa, 22, was due to perform at the Mall of America in the US state for a special Black Friday event on Friday, 28 November, but was struck down by “excruciating” pain in her stomach.

In a seven-minute TikTok video posted on Saturday, 29 November, JoJo Siwa fully explained what went down, and why her mother, dance instructor Jessalynn Siwa, had to call 911 to get her taken to hospital.

“Long story short, every time that I’ve been dancing the last couple of days, or even just walking, anything, my stomach would really, really hurt,” she began, explaining that she initially brushed it off as possible period cramps.

On Friday morning, she headed to the Mall of America to film some content, but returned to her hotel room after feeling “really bad”.

“I laid down, I closed my eyes, and I was like… I can’t breathe. I was like, this is really bad. I was like, let me hop in the bathtub to see if that kind of calms it down. That set it off 100 times worse,” she said.

“I got in the bathtub. I was in it for maybe four minutes and all of a sudden, I was like I need to get out immediately ‘cos I knew that I was gonna black out and I felt like I was going to throw up.”

After getting out of the tub, Siwa phoned her mother and asked her to come to the room. “She came up right away, she was like, ‘Should I take you to the hospital?’ I was like, ‘yes’.”

When Siwa told her mother that she couldn’t even get up to get herself dressed to head to the hospital, Jessalynn phoned 911.

While in the hospital, Siwa told medics that she was hesitant about cancelling the Mall of America performance, and was put on pain medication. After an ultrasound scan, doctors discovered that the “Karma” singer had an ovarian cyst.

“One of my ovaries had a cyst on it that burst and was bleeding into my stomach. So that’s what was causing the excruciating pain, because anytime that the blood in your stomach moves… it’s like brutal pain,” she told her 46 million TikTok followers.

“It’s basically just excruciating pain but the good news is, we know what it is. I think that brought a lot of peace of mind to me,” she added.

Despite the medical scare, Siwa’s Mall of America performance did go ahead, and she told her fans that she would be back at work on Saturday.

“Today, we’re gonna go to work, and we’re gonna dance again,” she promised.

“I’m afraid how this dance is gonna affect me ’cause I’m gonna be dancing, but it’s only gonna be an hour. We’re going to do it. We’re going to keep it pushing. Basically, if I vomit or if I have that excruciating pain burst again, I got to go immediately back in. But we should be OK.”

Siwa went on to thank her fans for their concern. “I’m doing all right. I’m not 100 percent, it’ll take about a week or two for me to be 100 percent,  as long as nothing gets more complicated,” she rounded off.

In the comment section, Siwa’s legion of fans praised her for her “incredible” strength.

“And this is a woman that is trolled online badly yet is still always so dedicated to others!! Get well soon you’re incredible,” wrote one loyal fan.

“JoJo please rest. I know you don’t want to let people down but your health should come first,” begged a second.

“Omg JoJo ur such a trooper idk how you went onstage,” questioned a third. “Hope u have a speedy recovery. I hope u manage to get some rest. We all love you so much with all our [hearts].”
