Netflix adds AMC show Dispatches from Elsewhere starring trans actress Eve Lindley

Eve Lindley as Simone in Dispatches From Elsewhere (AMC/Netflix)

Netflix has expanded its AMC collection with five new series to its US library this December, including magical realism drama series Dispatches from Elsewhere, which first aired in 2020.

The series stars transgender actress Eve Lindley as Simone, one of four ordinary, but lonely, people living in Philadelphia who get drawn into a peculiar, magical and intriguing scavenger hunt organised by a secretive and shadowy organisation called the Jejune Institute.

The group of four strangers are thrown together to form a team, and take part in the game. The second episode of the show follows events from Simone’s perspective: Simone is a trans woman who has felt isolated and often awkward her whole life, but by participating in the game she begins to form new friendships and connections.

Sally Field, Richard E. Grant and André Benjamin also star in the genre-defying and enigmatic ten episode-long mystery show, which is based on documentary film The Institute.

Who is Eve Lindley?

32-year-old Eve Lindley is a film and TV actress who most recently starred as Jane in the 2025 LGBTQ+ zombie horror comedy movie Queens of the Dead, directed by Tina Romero.

Set in a club in Bushwick, New York, the film follows a group of queer performers preparing for a huge blowout party with drag queens readying their acts, and end it covered in blood and guts, as zombies ravage Brooklyn.

She also appeared in Billy Eichner’s 2022 romantic comedy movie Bros. Her TV credits include Mr Robot, Tales of the City and, of course, Dispatches from Elsewhere.

In an interview with Variety in 2020, Lindley spoke about how she brought her “lived experience” as a trans woman to her portrayal of Simone, explaining: “Women move through this world and literally on one street corner you can feel very safe and then you turn the corner and suddenly feel that danger is very near.

“I think for trans women, particularly, that’s a super real thing as we hear about these record numbers of trans women being murdered. So the lived experience really informs the character, and it just makes me think of trans people wanting to be portrayed by trans actors on TV: It does make a difference; there is a lived experience that other people may understand less.”
