Russell T Davies‘ latest drama, The War Between The Land and The Sea, will air this weekend and is fronted by Russell Tovey.
The five-part series, a spin-off from Doctor Who, sees Tovey star as the low-level UNIT staff member, Barclay, who becomes a spokesperson for humanity as the Homo Aqua (aka the Doctor Who villains the Sea Devils) reemerge angry at the destruction done to the planet’s oceans.
Early reviews have been positive of the series, with critics hailing it as a “return to form” for Davies after the most recent seasons of Doctor Who, which failed to make much of a splash.
As well as Tovey the series also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jemma Redgrave, Alexander Devrient, and Ruth Madeley among others.

The project is the latest from Tovey after recent roles in films such as Plainclothes and series such as Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes.
Here’s what we know about the actor.
