People have applauded a queer comedian for his hot take on how “straight people have terrible taste in gay people”.

Comedian and writer George Civeris recently appeared on Subway Takes hosted by Kareem Rahma. The series sees Rahma chat to people, usually on the New York City subway, about their hot takes.

In a video shared on Wednesday (17 December) Civeris shares his hot take: “Straight people have terrible taste in gay people.”

Rahma says: “100% agree. Don’t get mad at me, but I 100% agree.”

Civeris then lists Ellen DeGeneres, the Queer Eye guys [Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Jeremiah Brent, and formerly Bobby Berk] and Randy Rainbow as examples. He also mentions “the Gay Bachelor”, likely a reference to Colton Underwood.

When Rahma replies that he liked the Queer Eye guys, Civeris explains his issue with the group.

“For seven years, straight people let the Queer Eye guys into their apartments. No questions asked by the way.

“They say ‘Come in! Yeah, take my sofa and compost it. It was given to me by my grandmother. She fought for women’s rights. I don’t give a f*** about her anymore. Yeah, replace it with a slab of reclaimed wood’.”

Hilariously, he continues: “If the Queer Eye guys came to my apartment, I would call Homeland Security. I would say there are five terrorists here. They’re all dressed like Mugatu from Zoolander.

“There is a bomber jacket that is a shade of purple. I didn’t even know it was on the Roygbiv [the rainbow] spectrum.”

Asked what gay icons should be celebrated, Civeris suggests John Waters, Melissa Etheridge, and Niecy Nash. Civeris then offers his hottest take.

“Progressive, straight people want so badly to support gay people that they are so forgiving,” he says. He claims straight people meet “the most annoying gay person ever”, and decide: “I have to be supportive.”

The comedian continues: “And suddenly, that annoying gay person, all he has to do is flatter the straight people, he gets promoted, and suddenly that annoying gay person is Secretary of Transportation,” in an apparent dig at Pete Buttigieg.

Laughing raucously throughout, Rahma chimes in with: “That’s so fire.”

Civeris then adds: “Meanwhile, there are thoughtful, talented, smart lesbians every day,” naming Sex and the City‘s Cynthia Nixon and highlighting her failed bid to run for Governor of New York in 2018.

Stating she had similar ideas to newly elected Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, Civeris says: “People were like, ‘Oh, there’s something off about her.’ Why? ‘Cause she has a butch wife? Because she has a butch wife who loves theatre?”

Closing the video Rahma asks: “Who’s the most annoying gay person?” to which Civeris replies: “Donald Trump.”

In the comments people celebrated Civeris’ take as the “hottest take so far” with one person saying he was “so real” for it.
