Legendary Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani, known by the mononym Valentino, has died, his foundation has confirmed.
In a statement on Instagram, the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation wrote that Valentino died today, 19 January, “peacefully in his Roman home, surrounded by the love of his family”.
He was 93-years-old.
The foundation added that Valentino would be lying in state at PM23 at the Piazza Mignanelli square in Rome on Wednesday 21 January and Thursday 22 January.
It added that his funeral would then take place this Friday, 23 January, at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, in the Piazza della Repubblica 8 in Rome.
Valentino founded his eponymous luxury fashion company in 1960 in Rome with his business and personal associate Giancarlo Giammetti, with the brand becoming known as one of the world’s most successful fashion houses.
