Fresh from the army barracks of Boots Max Parker is stepping into a new role as a god in the upcoming God of War adaptation.
Parker, also known for his time on Emmerdale, came to international recognition as Sergeant Sullivan in Netflix’s military drama based on Greg Cope’s 2016 memoir, The Pink Marine. Parker has also featured in Doctor Who and Vampire Academy.
Now Parker, who is gay, is joining Prime Video’s adaptation of the iconic God of War video games as Heimdall.

The character description on Prime Video reads: “The Watchman of Asgard, and one of the sons of Odin, Heimdall is a god in his own right with the special ability to anticipate what’s about to happen at any moment.
“Handsome and dynamic, he feels unappreciated by his father and underestimated by the rest of the family, and as a result Heimdall is constantly looking for ways to improve his position in the hierarchy and increase his stature and power.”
Parker joins the already announced Ryan Hurst as the titular god, Kratos.
Based on the popular video games, the series has already been given a two-season order with pre-production underway in Vancouver. Shogun director Frederick E.O. Toye is working on the first two episodes with Ronald D. Moore serving as showrunner, executive producer, and writer.

The synopsis for the show reads: “God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”
There have been 10 God of War video games since the series began in 2005. It follows Kratos, a Spartan god, as he encounters characters from Greek and then Norse mythology.
The series is widely considered to include some of the best action games with the series. The series has won at least a dozen Game of The Year awards including at The Game Awards and also the BAFTA Games Awards.
Netflix cancelled Boots after one season. This was despite it scoring an impressive 90 per cent critic and fan approval score on Rotten Tomatoes.
