Nicki Minaj really has alienated herself from a lot of her fans with her most recent appearance with and praise for President Trump.
During Wednesday’s (28 January) summit for Trump Accounts, a government-supported initiative to provide investment accounts for US children, the “Anaconda” rapper spoke in support of Trump calling herself his “number one fan”. Trump has said she’s investing in the program.
Taking to the stage Minaj, who has already received backlash from Pride groups, said: “I am probably the President’s number one fan, and that’s not going to change. And the hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more, it’s going to motivate all of us to support him more.”
She then said: “We’re not going to let them get away with bullying him and you know the smear campaigns, it’s not going to work. He has a lot of force behind him and God is protecting him. Amen.”
The cringe-worthy moment earned Minaj, previously deemed an LGBTQ+ ally, derision and scorn from many corners of the internet.

On X/Twitter one person wrote: “Nicki Minaj has left me disenchanted,” also referencing Minaj’s ‘Gold Card’ which makes her a legal permanent resident in the U.S. It only cost her a measly $1 million as well as a $15,000 non-refundable processing fee, according to Forbes. Trump has said a ‘Platinum Card’ will be available soon, which will only cost $5 million.
“I think Nicki Minaj is a sell-out,” added someone else, which has proved to be a popular opinion of the “Super Bass” rapper. “Nicki Minaj is absolutely vile as a person,” typed another angry X/Twitter user. They added: “May she never crawl out of her endless flop era. She’s become the Republicans’ little wind-up toy, all to protect her pedophile husband.” And for a final stinging bite they put: “P.S. Congrats on never winning a Grammy.”
Minaj’s speech is the latest turn in the sad story of the rapper becoming one of the President’s most enthusiastic celebrity supporters.
In November, Minaj shared a post from Trump about the “existential threat” faced by Christians in Nigeria. The rapper also said she had “a deep sense of gratitude” for Trump supporting Christianity.
Minaj disappointed her fans, many of whom are LGBTQ, in her response to the backlash and went on to share an anti-trans post from the White House soundtracked to “Va Va Voom”.

Joining Erica Kirk at a Turning Point USA event in December, Minaj said she supported Trump because she was “tired of being pushed around”. She also claimed that MAGA are the “cool kids” and also that the Trump administration is “full of people with heart and soul”.
She then got into a spat with RuPaul’s Drag Race star Heidi N Closet who branded the singer “MAGA Minaj”. Her posts have also seen Pride UK state that “she is not our friend”.
More recently she’s continued her anti-LGBTQ+ push by targeting gay journalist Don Lemon after a report on a Minnesota church service in the wake of the murder of Renee Good. Lemon, who is gay and married to real estate agent Tim Malone, later urged Minaj to “stop talking s*** for which [she] knows nothing about”.
