Who is Don Lemon’s husband as journalist talks of protest arrest

Independent journalist Don Lemon has drawn headlines following his arrest while reporting on a protest in Minnesota, alongside a public feud with “MAGA Barbie” Nicki Minaj.
Lemon, who was arrested on 29 January for covering a protest against the ongoing immigration crackdown in Minnesota, has said his arrest was designed to “embarrass” and “intimidate” him. He will next appear in federal court in Minneapolis on 9 February.
The journalist has also spoke out about Donald Trump supporter Nicki Minaj, calling her a “homophobic bigot”.
Coverage of Lemon has led to many people wanting to know more about him, including more about his husband, who he said only discovered his arrest after Lemon asked for his wedding band to be returned to him.
Who is Don Lemon’s husband?
Lemon, who came out as gay in his 2011 memoir Transparent, and via a profile in The New York Times, is married to real estate agent Tim Malone.
The pair began dating in 2016, a year after meeting at a restaurant in the Hamptons. They got engaged in 2019.
In April, 2024, Lemon and Malone married at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. Their marriage, which marked their fifth engagement anniversary, included their three adorable dogs.
Malone is 41 and hails from New York. He attended Southampton High School, graduating in 2002. He continued his education at Boston College, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in history and journalism.
As per LinkedIn, Malone began his career in 2006 with the NBCUniversal Page Program, starting out as a production assistant on the Today show. He remained at NBC until 2013, working in sales before transitioning to marketing at Billboard.
He worked as Billboard’s director of brand partnerships until 2016, and was executive director at entertainment company Jukin Media in 2017.
Malone switched from media and advertising to real estate in 2018, initially joining the Corcoran Real Estate Group as a realtor.
He then worked for Douglas Elliman Real Estate and now works for Compass, as a New York City and Hampton realtor who runs The Malone Team.
Malone’s career in real estate is going well. In 2021, he helped to sell his then-fiancé’s $1.525 million Harlem condo.
His website notes: “Outside of work, Tim is an avid runner and traveler. He has completed the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon twice.
“He and his husband share their home with three rescue dogs — Boomer, Barkley, and GusGus — who keep life active and full.”
