Doctor Who and The Catherine Tate Show star Catherine Tate is set to take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in the West End smash, Oh, Mary!
Comedian and LGBTQ+ ally Catherine Tate will take over from The Sandman star Mason Alexander Park in the coveted role from 27 April until 18 July.
Oh, Mary! is on stage at the Trafalgar Theatre in the West End, having arrived in London from Broadway in December.
The Tony Award-winning show, written by history-making non-binary actor Cole Escola, reimagines former US first lady Mary Todd Lincoln as an alcoholic and former cabaret star. The dark comedy also features Abraham Lincoln as a closeted gay man, with the show’s timeline running in the weeks up to his assassination.

Stage actor Scott Karim will play Abraham Lincoln from 16 March, taking over from Giles Terera.
Oh, Mary! has been a huge hit since it arrived on Broadway in 2024. In 2025, it was nominated for five Tony Awards, winning two. The show’s director Sam Pinkleton won the Best Direction of a Play accolade, while Cole Escola won Best Actor in a Play, becoming the first non-binary performer to do so.
On Broadway, the role of Mary Todd Lincoln has been played by Escola, RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon, actress Jane Krakowski, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch star John Cameron Mitchell.
Mason Alexander Park is the first actor to play the role in the UK production.
While Catherine Tate is best known for her noughties comedy show The Catherine Tate Show, she is also a veteran of the stage, having made her theatre debut in 1988. She has since won two WhatsOnStage Awards.
