DoorDash driver shuts down Trump’s trans athlete question in White House photo-op

Trump received a DoorDash delivery at the White House

A planned White House press event highlighting tip tax relief took an unexpected turn when Donald Trump attempted to pivot the conversation to transgender athletes mid-event.

The Monday (13 April) appearance featured Arkansas DoorDash driver Sharon Simmons, who delivered a McDonald’s order to the presser to help showcase the impact of the administration’s “no tax on tips” policy.

While Trump was taking questions from the press he abruptly shifted topics, asking Simmons: “Do you think that men should play in women’s sports?”

“I really don’t have an opinion on that,” Simmons said. Trump replied: “You don’t? I’ll bet you do,” before Simmons firmly redirecting the conversation, saying: “No. I’m here about no tax on tips.”

At another point in the conference, Trump grabbed a $100 bill and handed it to Simmons after a reporter asked Simmons: “Are the White House good tippers?”

“Thank you, you reminded me,” Trump said afterwards, smiling and pointing at the reporter.

The interaction reflects a broader pattern of Trump introducing anti-trans talking points into unrelated settings, even as many Americans remain focused on everyday concerns like income and healthcare.

For Simmons, who says her husband has been navigating cancer treatment and financial strain, the moment underscored that disconnect.
