The first teaser for Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder’s new queer horror comedy film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma has arrived, and it looks like a bloody nightmare.
The X Files star Gillian Anderson and Hacks actress Hannah Einbinder star in the meta new slasher movie from transfeminine non-binary filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun, best known for 2024’s genre-shifting trans horror smash, I Saw The TV Glow.
In Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Einbinder plays a filmmaker who is handed the reins of a slasher franchise. Anderson plays the enigmatic woman who starred in the original films.
“After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection,” reads an official synopsis.
“But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma continues Schoenbrun’s “body of work shaped by themes of trans identity and queer horror” following I Saw The TV Glow and 2021’s We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.
In the bonkers first official teaser trailer for the film, Einbinder looks frankly terrified as she is sucked into Andrson’s character’s peculiar orbit.
The trailer teases plenty of blood, guts and violence, and a mysterious force at the bottom of a lake who seems to have Anderson’s character in a chokehold.
“There is a hole at the bottom of the lake where the movies come from. He always comes back,” she says in a thick southern drawl to a bewildered Einbinder.
In addition to Emmy winner Einbinder and two-time Golden Globe winner Anderson, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma stars queer talent including Sorry, Baby star Eva Victor, Yellowjackets’ Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Prime Target’s Quintessa Swindell. Jack Haven, who starred in I Saw The TV Glow, will also feature.
Severance actor Zach Cherry, Saturday Night Live comedian Sarah Sherman, Lost actor Patrick Fischler, Spider-Man’s Dylan Baker, Broken Diamonds star Amanda Fix, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s Arthur Conti, and The Kids in the Hall actor Kevin McDonald will also star.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is due for release in US cinemas on 7 August.
