Transformative make up artist Alexis Stone has claimed that they were a Jim Carrey imposter after conspiracies floated about the actor’s clone. The supposed revelation has divided the internet.

Carrey, best known for his comedic roles, made a rare appearance at the 2026 Cesar Film Awards on Thursday (26 February). Following the event, many fans claimed that the actor looked considerably different. Amidst viral speculation, drag queen Stone is claiming that they attended in Carrey’s place.

On Sunday (1 MARCH), Stone posted to Instagram a series of photos with the caption: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”

The images included two shots of Carrey and then a photo of a mask, teeth and a dark wig. The post is geo-tagged to Paris, France, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Since, Stone has also posted Instagram stories showing that they are, indeed, in France.

In the comments section of the post, people are split on whether or not to believe Stone.

“I can’t handle any more stress right now I need to know if this is real,” actress Megan Fox wrote.

Lisa Rinna also said: “You blow me away.” Another commenter replied: “Gagged.”

‘Gagged.’

“Hmmm I’m still not convinced though,” another person noted, sharing their suspicion of Stone.

Someone else also wrote: “Show the process or I don’t believe it, and last image looks AI.”

Others have also pointed out that Carrey accepted his honorary award with a speech completely in French. This only added to the questions around the legitimacy of Stone’s claim.

Make-up artist Alexis Stone has sparked a wave of online conspiracy theories after jokingly claiming they impersonated Jim Carrey during the actor’s recent appearance at the César Awards. Carrey went viral after accepting an honorary prize, with some fans insisting he looked so different that he must have been replaced by a “double.” Stone then appeared to lean into the speculation, sharing images of what looked like a prosthetic head cast, as well as photos of wigs, teeth and makeup setups. Known for hyper-realistic celebrity transformations, Stone has previously recreated famous faces and characters, including those inspired by Carrey’s work in The Mask, leading many to assume the posts were satire poking fun at the internet’s reaction. The stunt divided social media, with some demanding proof and others playing along, even drawing confused responses from celebrities such as Megan Fox and Lisa Rinna. Despite the rumours, footage from the ceremony shows Carrey delivering his speech as normal, suggesting the only real transformation was the internet’s imagination. #JimCarrey #AlexisStone #Makeupartist #LGBTQNews

However, convincingly impersonating celebrities is not a new thing for Stone. Previously, the make up artist has turned heads as Glenn Close, Anna Wintour, Lana Del Rey and Donatella Versace.

However, quashing all the rumours, general delegate of the Cesar Awards, Gregory Caulier, told Variety it was authentic and “a historic moment”.

“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. “

Speaking about the rumours, Caulier continued: “For me, it’s a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”
