Scream 7 actress Anna Camp has apologised after sharing an Instagram post which condemned people boycotting the new horror movie.
A post shared by the SCREAM with Ryan C. Showers Podcast Instagram account celebrated the fact that the new Scream film grossed almost $100 million at the global box office on its first weekend, despite an ongoing boycott of the franchise.
“Boycotts didn’t work, the critic’s hate didn’t work, the pathetic leaks didn’t work. What worked was audiences coming out and making the film a success,” the post read.
“Audiences, casual moviegoers and fans have overwhelmingly shown up for this movie in the face of a smear campaign by critics due to political reasons, an online boycott that has ranged from annoying to harassment, and horrible folks leaking clips of the film before release trying to spoil the movie,” the post continued in its caption. “Sweet like justice.”
Pitch Perfect star Anna Camp, who plays Jessica Bowden in the film, shared the post on her Instagram Stories, soundtracking it to Taylor Swift’s 2022 song “Karma”.
On social media, fans were quick to call out Camp for her “distasteful and disappointing” decision to share the post, considering the context behind the boycott of the Scream franchise.
In 2023, actress Melissa Barrera, who led Scream VI alongside Jenna Ortega, was fired from the franchise for using social media to speak out against Israel’s military action in Gaza. She had shared a post which condemned the country for committing “genocide and ethnic cleansing”.
Days after Barrera was dropped from Scream 7, Ortega, who played her on-screen sister, decided to leave the project too.
Following the controversy surrounding Barrera’s exit, fans of the long-running horror franchise began sharing their intentions to boycott Scream 7 when it was released.
After some called out Camp for seemingly mocking those who opted to boycott the film, the actress, who came out as queer in early 2025, took to social media to apologise.
“It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that does not reflect my personal beliefs,” she wrote in a post on X/Twitter.
“I have since deleted the repost because I absolutely meant no harm. I’m sorry to anyone who was affected.”
Some fans have been less than accepting of her apology, asking her to explain what her “personal beliefs” are.
“Are you going to clarify what your ‘personal beliefs’ are? Because you reposted something mocking pro-Palestine protestors,” one X user wrote.

“Sorry but i dont buy this AT. ALL. You knew what you were posting girl the entire tweet you reposted was making fun of the people boycotting the movie,” a second wrote.
“You have to hit like 3 separate buttons to post a story on Instagram,” a third added. “You KNOW what you read and reposted lmfao.”
On Rotten Tomatoes, Scream 7 has become the worst-rated Scream film in the franchise, achieving a critics’ score of 33 per cent.
