Heartstopper author Alice Oseman has issued a moving update on the progress of the graphic novel series’ last ever book.
In a post on Instagram over the weekend, the 31-year-old writer confirmed that they had finished illustrating Volume 6, the final instalment in the Heartstopper series, almost ten years exactly after they began drawing the first.
“I drew the first page of Heartstopper in April 2016,” Oseman posted, alongside a selfie in front of her computer, which featured a blank page. “Today I drew the last page.”
Back in September, while Oseman was still completing work on Volume 6, she confirmed that the book would be released on 2 July this year.
Volume 6 will tie up the sweet romance between Heartstopper’s queer teen characters Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson. Heartstopper Forever, a Netflix movie adapted from the contents of Volume 6, is set to premiere this summer too. Joe Locke and Kit Connor, who play Charlie and Nick respectively, were spotted filming the movie in Leeds last summer.
The exact plot of Volume 6 and thus Heartstopper Forever is being kept under wraps, though it’s believed to focus on how Charlie and Nick manage their relationship after Nick heads off to university.
In an update on the film issued by Oseman in December, they said that post-production was still ongoing, but that the team behind it had made “a lot of progress”.
“Then the film will be dubbed in many different languages, which takes a few months. Then we get to the fun bit for you guys,” she wrote on social media.
“I’m very nervous and scared about what you’ll think of it… but that’s probably normal! 2026 will be a big year for Heartstopper.”
Responding to Oseman’s latest emotional update, fans of the queer book series shared their “bittersweet” congratulations.
“The last page!! 10 years of hard work and dedication have come down to this,” wrote one fan. “Thank you so much for creating such a beautiful story and giving us Nick and Charlie. So proud of you.”
“Last?!?! But at least it’ll be FOREVER immortalized in our hearts. (I know that sounded cheesy but it’s true),” a second agreed.
“So bittersweet,” commented a third. “I am so excited to see how the story will end but also… I don’t want the story to end!”

“This is so surreal,” another wrote. “Thank you for creating this beautiful story for us to have its created such an amazing community and i have made so many life long friends.”
While Heartstopper fans wait patiently for Volume 6 and Heartstopper Forever to arrive, there are other reasons to celebrate. Last week, at the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, Heartstopper won in the Outstanding Writing for a Young Teen Program category, while Joe Locke took home the Outstanding Lead Performer accolade for his role as Charlie.
