Two Drag Race stars reportedly set to appear on Project Runway

Two top four queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race are reportedly set to appear on the upcoming 22nd season of fashion design reality series Project Runway.

Rumours began to swirl earlier this week when Plane Jane and Q, who both starred on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 in 2024, were spotted among a group of people filming at the World Trade Center in New York City.

According to the social media user who posted the photos, the group were filming for the upcoming season of Project Runway. Now, Entertainment Weekly has seemingly confirmed that the social media post was accurate, and that both drag stars will reportedly appear in the new season of the show.

However, only Q will appear as a design contestant. Plane Jane, who had a heated relationship with Q during their time on the drag competition, will be appearing in an as-yet unconfirmed capacity. She most recently starred on the third season of House of Villains.

During her run on season 16, Q, also known professionally as Robert Severson, won both of the season’s design challenges and performed well in the ball and makeover challenges.

If Q is officially cast on the upcoming season, it will mark the second time a former Drag Race competitor has featured as a designer on Project Runway.

During last year’s 21st season, and its first on Freeform, Drag Race season 13 star Utica competed, making it all the way to the final three.

However, the show was eventually won by Veejay Floresca, the first ever trans winner of Project Runway.

After returning to its original broadcaster Bravo from Lifetime in 2019, Project Runway was axed in 2023, before being rebooted by Freeform in 2025. It is hosted by model and Halloween superstar Heidi Klum, with Nina García and Law Roach serving as guest judges.

Tim Gunn, who appeared on the show as a mentor until it was brought back to Bravo in 2019, recently opened up about living the past 43 years of his life celibate after experiencing a crushing heartbreak.

“I have to say, being celibate and being someone who lives alone was a bit of an adjustment. But now I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he said on Chelsea Handler’s podcast Dear Chelsea.
