Ashlee Simpson has been crowned the winner of The Masked Singer season 14, and she has singled out one specific group to thank: her LGBTQ+ fans.

The 41-year-old singer-songwriter and actress was unmasked as Galaxy Girl. Her finale showcase included singing “Good 4 U” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Try” by Pink.

The “Pieces of Me” hitmaker beat third-place finisher Kylie Cantrall and runner-up Phillip Phillips to claim the win.

“I’m kind of freaking out right now,” Simpson said on the show after winning. “I’ve literally had the best experience of my life here.

“I have grown so much here. It’s shown me a lot for myself because people think, ‘Oh, this is easy.’ It is hard work.”

Later, speaking to Out, Simpson opened up about how her LGBTQ+ fanbase has supported and energised her.

“Honestly, it was the most exciting moment. It was something I definitely didn’t expect,” Simpson tells the outlet about appearing on the show.

‘They give me all the energy I need.’

“I’ve loved everything I’ve done in my career, and this was so much fun, to hide under this mask.”

Following her win, Simpson will be performing at Outloud Music Festival at West Hollywood (WeHo) Pride in June.

“I can’t wait! Last year, I went, and it was the best time. I can’t wait to perform this year!” Simpson said of the upcoming show.

“[LGBTQ+ fans are] my strongest fanbase and it is the best.

“To see everyone now, grown and married, I’m like ‘Oh my god, YES!’ There’s no better feeling.

“It’s their moment to shine! We all grew up together. This is your moment, let it go! They give me all the energy I need. Tune everything out. Focus on the happiness. Focus on what is good and what is positive. Laugh. Breathe. Everything is going to be okay!”

Seeing everyone when they were younger to seeing them now out and proud [is amazing]. I think a lot of my music was about discovering yourself at that time!”

Simpson has been a staunch LGBTQ+ ally for decades now. Famously, in 2009, she appeared with her then-husband, Pete Wentz, in the NOH8 campaign.

Simpson was married to Wentz from 2008 to 2011. She has been married to Evan Ross since 2014.
