Actress Aubrey Plaza has confirmed she is expecting her first child. The happy news comes a year after her husband Jeff Baena’s death, after she found love again with actor Christopher Abbott.
Plaza, 41, and Abbott, 40, are set to become parents in the autumn.
A source told PEOPLE that the couple “feel very blessed”, adding: “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year.”
Plaza’s husband Baena was found dead at the age of 47 his home on 3 January, 2025. His cause of death was ruled as suicide by hanging.
Aubrey Plaza’s tough time
Plaza, who is bisexual, split from Baena in September 2024, after starting dating in 2011 and getting married in 2021.
After Baena’s death, Plaza pulled out of presenting at the 2025 Golden Globes, which were to be held two days after.
She returned to the public eye on 16 February, hosting part of the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special. There, she paid tribute to Baena, wearing a tie-dye shirt similar to what they’d worn on their wedding day.
Who is Christopher Abbott?
Aubrey Plaza’s new man Christopher Abbott is an actor, best known for his work in Girls as Charlie Dattolo.
He has also appeared in countless movies, including Poor Things and Kraven the Hunter.
Abbott also made his Broadway debut in 2011 with The House of Blue Leaves and this year has starred in the 2026 Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman.
He and Plaza have starred alongside each other in Off-Broadway show Danny and the Deep Blue Sea in 2023, and in the 2020 film Black Bear.
