Britney Spears has voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation facility for substance abuse, after she was arrested for an alleged DUI in March.
The pop superstar is said to have entered an undisclosed facility in the US last week, according to TMZ.
The publication claimed that people close to Spears had been pushing her to go to rehab, which she eventually did voluntarily. Those around her, including sons Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, are said to be strongly supportive of her decision.
One source told the US site: “She realises she hit rock bottom.”
The “Toxic” songstress was arrested for an alleged DUI in California on 4 March. It’s reported that her arrest is one reason she decided to go to rehab. A rep confirmed to US Weekly that Spears had checked herself in voluntarily.
‘She’s taking it seriously’
“She knows strategically this will look good in front of the judge – that she’s taking it seriously,” a source claimed.
Meanwhile, a source told Celebrity Intelligence: “This situation served as a wake-up call. She acknowledges that her behaviour has not been healthy and genuinely wants to seek help.”
It’s reported that Spears may stay in the facility for longer than the usual 30 days to try and ensure a better recovery.
She previously went to rehab in 2007 in Antigua, but left after less than 24 hours. She checked into other facilities in the weeks that followed, during the height of her struggles.
It’s reported that Spears has struggled with Adderall and alcohol for a number of years. She wrote of her struggles in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me.
