James Bond actor attacks gay journalist
It has emerged that Bond star Daniel Craig verbally abused a leading gay journalist at a BAFTA party on Sunday night.
Johann Hari, best known for his rigorously intellectual comment and investigative writing for The Independent, revealed that Craig called him a “fucking fool” at the event.
It seems Hari had made the mistake of complimenting the new James Bond on his physical appearance.
“When we first spoke, he was in a vile mood. I just made a joke about how great he looked in his shorts in the film,” Hari told the Daily Mail.
“There were so many ways he could have reacted. But instead, he called me a fucking fool. I hadn’t said it nastily.
“He could have just smiled and said he wasn’t in the mood for a joke. But he was actively rude and seemed to snarl at me.”
Craig, 38, was reported to be unhappy at constant references to his admittedly impressively toned body.
During the BAFTA ceremony presenter Jonathan Ross had joked about the famous scene in Casino Royale where Craig, in his debut performance as James Bond, emerges from the sea in a pair of tight blue shorts.
Craig trained at the prestigious Guildhall School of Drama in London. He acted with the National Youth Theatre from the age of 16 and spent three years at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
He is reported to be frustrated that much of the discussion about his portrayal of Bond revolves around his appearance rather than his characterisation.
Craig is the sixth actor to portray the spy character.
