New theatre group will fundraise for HIV
Theatre industry professionals have launched a new support organisation for HIV positive people.
TheatreMAD plans a series of theatre-based events to raise funds to support individuals in the UK living with HIV and facing hardship,
The organisation also wants to raise greater awareness with the general public of ongoing issues relating to HIV.
TheatreMAD will make grants to individuals and and to groups working to combat HIV infection and the prejudice experienced.
Torchwood star and West End stalwart John Barrowman is patron of the organisation.
“With rates of infection still on the rise, I am delighted to lend my support to TheatreMAD and will be actively encouraging everyone I know from the worlds of theatre, music and television to join me,” he said.
“It is vital that we do all that we can to continue to raise awareness and support those living with HIV.”
Among the events announced already is West End Eurovision, this Thursday at the Piccadilly Theatre, London.
The casts of West End hit shows will sing favourite Eurovision hit songs as they battle it out to be crowned West End Eurovision Champion.
From Saturday 29th November to Sunday 7th December bucket collections by theatre staff and casts around the country will raise funds.
On Sunday 30th November at the Actor’s Church, Covent Garden, London patrons and friends of TheatreMAD from stage and screen will come together for a special celebration to kick start the festive season.
There will also be a host of Late Night Cabarets and MAD Midnight Matinee performances of top West End Shows.
