Billionaire JK Rowling reportedly forced to cover name of her superyacht amid protest fears

A report has claimed a superyacht identified as belonging to JK Rowling was moored in Marina del Rey, Los Angeles, with its name covered amid fears it could attract protesters.
The vessel was identified as “Samsara”, and an unnamed person claimed the name was hidden because it “often attracts protesters.” A resident also described it as the “worst-kept secret on the marina.”
Rowling, 61, has not been publicly spotted on the vessel. Marine tracking data cited in the account indicated the yacht was still at Marina del Rey.
What’s been claimed about ‘Samsara’
The yacht was built by Dutch shipbuilder Oceanco and is described as nearly 100 yards long. A SuperYachtFan listing for ‘Samsara’ describes amenities including a circular swimming pool, a movie theatre and a “tranquil beach club”.
The same account said the vessel was originally commissioned for LA businessman Eric Smidt, then sold in 2022 to Australian billionaire Brett Blundy, with an estimated value of about $150 million. It suggested the yacht has since changed hands to Rowling.

The Harry Potter author, created one of the most commercially successful book franchises in history, adapted into blockbuster films and an upcoming HBO series.
To many, Rowling has become just as well known as a central figure in public debates about trans rights and gender recognition, drawing widespread criticism from LGBTQ+ groups and support from some gender-critical campaigners. She has previously offered legal funding to fight trans-inclusive NHS spaces.
