Pride London to host conference on LGBT rights around the Commonwealth
Pride London, as hosts of WorldPride 2012, will hold a conference focussing on the importance of global decriminalisation of homosexuality in the capital next week.
The conference will mark the beginning of a campaign for universal decriminalisation, focussing on the Commonwealth in particular, as the majority of anti-gay laws around the world were exported by the British empire.
Riswana Yasmin from Pakistan, Rosanna Flamer-Caldera from Sri Lanka and Siddharth Narrain from India, Akinyi Ochalla from Kenya, Kemone Brown from South Africa and Kenita Placide from St Lucia will be in attendance.
The conference will consist of speeches and seminars in relation to the laws that criminalise homosexuality around the world, before exploring how recent successes in countries such as India have been achieved. Organisers say it will also focus on the actions which are necessary “to realise our dream of universal decriminalisation of homosexuality in every nation and territory along with a discussion of how we can make this dream a reality”.
Delegates are promised a unique opportunity to meet the trendsetters of progressive LGBT thought and professionals from companies listed on the Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2012: Workplace Equality Index, in attendance to enhance their knowledge of LGBT issues in the global corporate arena.
The conference takes place at the Citadines Prestige Holborn on 4 July from 8am to 5pm, with tickets available from Pride London at £150 each.
