Heated Rivalry: The Musical Parody’s Shane and Ilya sit down for flirty chat
Heated Rivalry: The Musical Parody’s Shane and Ilya (Blake Eirmann)
Heated Rivalry fans, a musical parody is heading to Edinburgh Fringe in August – and the stage show’s own Shane and Ilya had a very flirty chat just for you.
Fans of the television series and books will be familiar with Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, their rivalry on the ice and their passion off the rink.
Heated Rivalry: The Musical Parody brings all that together in a spoof show, full of songs, naughty jokes, and more pucking innuendos than you can imagine.
The show, running from 5 to 30 August at the Other Yin, at Gilded Balloon Patter House, also features Scott Hunter and loveable Kip Grady.
But PinkNews got the tea from Shane and Ilya themselves (well, kind of) – and it sounds like a must-see show…
Question: Shane and Ilya, you just watched Heated Rivalry: The Musical Parody, what was it like watching a show about you?
Rozanov: Not good.
Say more about that?
Rozanov: No.
Great, thank you, Ilya. Shane, what was it like for you?
Hollander: Um… Kind of weird. The actor who played me was really… emotional? I’m not like that.
Sure. This was a musical too. What did you think of the songs?
Ilya: It was bull s***.
Why is that?
Ilya: I don’t sing. Ever.
Great. Thanks. This show also got pretty personal. How was it to watch your romance on stage? Let’s start with Shane.
Hollander: Oh, I don’t think we should talk about that in public. I’m Canadian.
Ilya, did the on-stage romance feel real to you?
Rozanov: They were not nude. We have sex totally nude.
Hollander: (blushing) Oh my god, Rozanov.
Rozanov: What? I like your little square b*** hole. It’s cute. Audience should see it too.
Hollander: (blushing more) F*** you.
Rozanov: You’re so boring. (Hollander and Rozanov start kissing.)
Sorry to interrupt. What did you think of the hockey in the show?
Rozanov: Terrible.
Hollander: Awful. Really Really bad. Like not even hockey.
Rozanov: But not dance either. Just s***.
Got it. Was there any part they got right about your relationship?
Hollander: Um, the dates were accurate?
Rozanov: I am top. He is bottom. That was right.
Was there anything that you liked in the show?
Hollander: My dad was so my dad.
Rozanov: Yes, very awkward. His father is not cool. Shane is also not cool.
Hollander: (laughing) Stop it.
Rozanov: Also I have sex with women. That is true.
Hollander: (stops laughing) Yeah.
Rozanov: Don’t be jealous. (starts speaking in Russian) Don’t be a little jealous, girl, Shane. Or should I call you Jane? Huh? Jane, my little rock hard hockey stick? My ice cold puck? My square butthole baby?
(Hollander giggles.)
Do you understand what he’s saying?
Hollander: No, but I love it.
Thank you both so much for your time. Would you recommend that people see Heated Rivalry: The Musical Parody?
Hollander: No.
Rozanov: Definitely not.
(Hollander and Rozanov start making out.)
Well… if that wasn’t a glowing review… But in all seriousness, the show is produced by Quick and Funny Musicals, who are known for turning pop culture moments into comedy musicals.
The likes of Rachel Bloom, Kat Burns, Chris Grace and a long list of Broadway stars, comedians and actors have been a part of their productions.
The production team writes the book, songs and staging for each show in just one month, bringing audiences musical comedies that are scrappy and proudly overcommitted in their execution.
The cast for Heated Rivalry: The Musical Parody includes Vasthy Mompoint (SpongBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical), Gwen Hollander (Broadway/national tour of Little Women), Tara Cox (TikTok creator with over 1million views), Krystle Simmons (performed with Cynthia Erivo in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl), and Shilpa Das (creator, producer and host of LA’s largest South Asian variety comedy show).
