Germany: Lesbian-exclusive burial site to be inaugurated in historic Berlin cemetery
A new burial area exclusively for lesbians is set to be inaugurated in a historic two-century-old Berlin cemetery this weekend.
According to The Associated Press, a 400-square-meter area of the Lutheran Georgen Parochial cemetery will be reserved as a graveyard for up to 80 lesbians.
A spokeswoman for Safia association, a national group primarily for elderly lesbians, said on tuesday it expects the burial area to be inaugurated on Sunday.
She added the space will be “where the lesbian community can live together in the afterlife.”
The association was given use of the cemetery area for 30 years in exchange for cleaning up and landscaping the area, and promising to maintain the grounds.
The cemetery confirmed has confirmed the agreement but declined making further comment.
