Anti-gay Republican Mike Huckabee joins 2016 Presidential race

Republican Mike Huckabee – who once blamed a school massacre on gay people – has formally announced his plans to run for President in 2016.

In 2012, Huckabee suggested that a rejection of “natural law”, and “natural family of a father and mother” were the reasons for the school massacre at Newtown, Connecticut.

The former Arkansas governor announced his 2016 candidacy for the White House today, in his hometown of Hope, Arkansas.

He told supporters at a rally: “It is a long way from a little brick house in Hope, Arkansas, to the White House.”

“It seems fitting that it should be here where I should announce that I am a candidate for president of the United States of America.”

Earlier this year, Mr Huckabee encouraged states that disagree with equal marriage to ignore the Supreme Court’s decision if the court finds in favour of same-sex marriage.

He has also claimed that asking him to accept homosexuality is like “asking someone who’s Jewish to start serving bacon-wrapped shrimp in their deli…. or like asking a Muslim to serve up something that is offensive to him, or to have dogs in his backyard.”

Mr Huckabee used the rally as a chance to outline some of his plans if he succeeds in his bid, including stopping the “holocaust of liberalized abortion”, adding: “We have watched the slaughter of 50 million babies by choice.”

“The Supreme Court is not the supreme being, and they cannot turn over the laws of nature or of nature’s god.”

Other possible Republican contenders for the Republican nomination include Senator Ted Cruz – who is strongly opposed to gay marriage, Dr Ben Carson – who damaged his chances by claiming prisons prove being gay is a choice – and Jeb Bush, who has recently hired an anti-gay activist to work on his campaign team.

Last year, Fox host Megyn Kelly – seen as one of the more pro-gay voices on the conservative network – apologised after introducing the Republican as “F**kabee”.
