Jeffrey Tambor thought he was going to get punched because of his role in ‘Transparent’
Jeffrey Tambor has opened up about the moment he thought he was going to get attacked for his role in Transparent.
Speaking on the Seth Meyers show about his role as the transgender parent of three, Maura Pfefferman, Tambor revealed how he once thought someone was going to attack him on a plane after they recognised him.
Tambor was getting off a plane when a man pointed at him. Tambor thought “Here it comes, here it comes. This guy’s gonna just lay me out,” whilst the man pointed and said “You! You!” before grabbing him.
Tabor thought the man was going to “lay him out” him but instead the stranger thanked him for teaching him about something he did not know.
“I am so honoured, it is an honour to go to the set every day.” he said.
Tambor went on to talk about the progression we’re seeing in society. “They’re not going to stand for this hatred. They’re not going to stand for this nonsense and this misgendering and all of this crap.”
The actor has played the transgender character for four seasons of the show ‘Transparent’ and won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. He dedicated the award to the trans community.
He has always been conscious in breaking down transphobia and trans prejudice and has used his role in the series to combat social stigma. “I had a teacher who used to say, ‘When you act, you have to act as if your life depends on it.’ Now I’ve been given the opportunity to act because people’s lives depend on it.”
Transparent was nominated for a record-breaking 11 Emmy awards last year. The series follows Maura as she transitions and comes out to her children later in life.
