Dustin Lance Black signs modelling contract

LGBT activist and filmmaker Dustin Lance Black has signed a modelling contract.

The ‘Milk’ screenwriter has signed with Wilhelmina Models, which also represents Nicki Minaj, Shawn Mendes, Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato.

Of the new contract, Black says: “In a time when too many are using our differences to divide us, I want to help lift our differences up as what make us magnificent, what make us powerful.

“Fashion has the potential to help our individuality roar, and right now, we must use every tool in our arsenal to amplify that roar,” he adds to the Hollywood Reporter.

Of the appointment, CEO of Wilhelmina Bill Wackermann says: “Dustin Lance Black is a true visionary talent. He uses his artistry, voice and talent to give voice to individuals and ideas who need to be heard.”

The star won an Academy Award for Milk, released in 2009, which told the story of Harvey Milk.

He recently appeared on the cover of Attitude Magazine in the UK.

Black recently hit out at Hollywood stars who hide their sexuality.

Speaking to Attitude, Black hit out at major Hollywood stars who spread lies in order to conceal their sexuality.

He said: “I have no respect for someone who lies about their sexuality.

“At the very least say ‘no comment,’ just keep your personal life personal. But if you’re going to closet yourself, that sends a negative message.”

He also called for gay sports stars to come out of the closet in a hope to promote further diversity among the sports community.

Black, who is engaged to Olympic diver Tom Daley, said that young LGBT people were too “afraid” to play sports such as football because of the lack of diverse role models.

EaRlier this month Grey’s Anatomy star Sara Ramirez took aim at  Black for the lack of representation of bisexual people in When We Rise.

Writing on twitter Ramirez, who came out as bisexual last year, said that “our story needs to be told” alongside a piece of text accusing the screen writer of bi-erasure.
