āGay culture is being a teenager when youāre 30 because your teenage years were not yours to live,ā he wrote.
The tweet struck a chord with other Twitter users.
Many felt that they had lost years from their lives because they felt inclined to hide their sexuality.
The tweet sparked a conversation online about the effect staying closeted had on people.
However, they kept the discussion positive as calculated their REAL ages (minus the years that they were closeted)
One person wrote: āSecond puberty at 50 was one of the more interesting rides Iāve been through.ā
āI went from being out at 20 to being in an unhealthy five-year relationship. Iām probably 17,ā the original tweeter wrote.
āSo at 40 this makes me 21 again? Oh what a wondrous moment to be alive,ā another added.
Others explained that they hadnāt thought of the effects of being closeted this way until seeing the tweet.
One explained: āThis is both fun & a little heartbreaking. āIām fun now because I was robbed of my adolescenceā.ā
āSo thatās why Iām like this! I thought I was just regressing,ā someone else said.
A third wrote: ā almost cried when I read this. I didnāt realize how much I needed someone who was not me to say it out loud.ā
