LGBTQ people spend almost $100 billion on travel in the US alone

We now know that LGBTQ travellers spend almost $100 billion on travel in the US alone, thanks to Grindr.

An official survey carried out by the dating app has found that LGBTQ consumers spend more than $5 trillion globally, and $965 billion in the US, with $100 billion of that going on travel.

Meanwhile, 40% of Grindr’s LGBTQ millennials travel every quarter for fun, while 24% travel monthly. 39% plan their trips 1-3 months in advance, and 35% plan their trips 3-6 months in advance. Approximately 36 million overnight international travellers in 2017 were LGBTQ.

61% said that gay-friendly destinations and airlines etc. are important. 75% said that locations with an LGBTQ website makes them more likely to visit.

And, according to Grindr users, the top 10 destinations are: Italy, France, Hawaii, New York City, Australia, the UK, Greece, Spain, Japan, and Las Vegas.

52% prefer using mobile apps to guide them on holiday, 51% use travel site apps, and 31% of gay men use dating apps while they’re on vacay.

Elsewhere, 49% of LGBTQ travellers enjoy nightlife, with 46% listing culture and cuisine as their interest, and 39% opting for museums and sightseeing. 30% are after nature and the great outdoors, while 18% want wineries and breweries. 35% are keen on quirky, off the beaten track holidays.

Weirdly, 76% of gay millennials want to go on a cruise.

In terms of hotels, 71% stay in big-name places, 26% in boutique hotels, and 29% in home-shares. 50% of LGBT travellers want hip and fun hotels, while 52% and 55% of people want hotels and home shares in the centre of the action and nightlife, respectively.
