Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a RuPaul fan

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democrat of New York, leaves a photo opportunity with the female Democratic members of the 116th US House of Representatives outside the US Capitol in Washington, DC, January 4, 2019.

New Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has revealed she is a fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The left-wing New York Democrat has dominated headlines after her election to the House of Representatives, with conservatives attempting to smear the new congresswoman over her upbringing by dredging up clips of her dancing as a teenager.

However, they’re lucky her response wasn’t a “Glamazon” lip-sync.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez paid tribute to ‘Mother Ru’

Ocasio-Cortez’s outspoken stance earned her praise from none other than RuPaul, with the pair exchanging heartfelt messages on Twitter.

Ru wrote: “Dear Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez @AOC I ask that you guide my thoughts, my feelings and my perceptions. AMEN”

The congresswoman responded: “Mother Ru, thank you for your shining example of loving ourselves in our entirety, no matter what the world thinks. You give me hope and strength every day!”

The lawmaker also referenced RuPaul’s Drag Race on Twitter while critiquing the Washington Post‘s fact-checking service.

She wrote: “Facts are facts, America. We should care about getting things right. Yet standards of who gets fact-checked, how often and why are unclear.”

She added: “Credit for ‘facts are facts, America’ goes to the illustrious queen Monique Heart.”

Monique Heart coined the phrase on Season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race.

After seeing the reference, Monique Heart responded: “America, Miss Ocasio-Cortez has spoken! Make sure you support this beautiful and amazing icon. Love you and I am so gooped that you quoted me. Thank you ❤️”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rumoured for Drag Race guest judge role

Fans are already questioning whether Ocasio-Cortez could be convinced to make an appearance as a guest judge on a future season of Drag Race. Filming has already wrapped on the upcoming Season 11, set to premiere in March.

She would not be the first politician to make an appearance.

LGBT+ ally Nancy Pelosi, who was returned to the role of Speaker of the House of Representatives on January 3, appeared as a guest judge on the third season of Drag Race All Stars.

Pelosi offered advice and guidance to the drag queen elite and even made an appearance in the workroom.

She told them: “People sacrifice so much in our country for people to have the right to vote.

“It’s a blessing. But we have to use it. If you don’t vote, you don’t count — and you count.”

“I’m honored to be here. You’re an inspiration, I hope you know, because you really know your power. It’s about taking pride, and that’s what you do,” said Pelosi.
