Madonna announces ‘magic, intimate’ Madame X Tour

The Madame X Tour will see Madonna visit theatres in cities across the US, as well as in London, Lisbon and Paris.

Madonna has pitched the tour as a series of “rare and intimate performances,” with some venues holding as few as 2,000 people.

Beginning on September 12, the singer will visit eight US cities before resuming the tour in 2020 with performances in Lisbon, London and Paris.

The announcement trails the release of her fourteenth album, Madame X, and four years after her last jaunt, the Rebel Heart Tour.

Arthur Fogel, president of global touring at Live Nation said: “The chance for fans to see Madonna at these venues is incredibly special. We are proud and excited to be able to deliver this ultimate opportunity for her fans.”

How to get Madame X Tour tickets

Tickets will be distributed via a lottery which opened Monday (May 6).

Fans can request up to four tickets for their preferred city at their preferred price point by 11.59PM ET on Friday (May 10).

Madonna and Diplo

Madonna announced the Madame X Tour with a video starring Diplo.

Tickets will then be allocated by May 19 at 12pm ET. Apart from members of the ICON Legacy Fan Club, fans will only be allocated tickets to a single show.

According to Variety, tickets will range from $60 to $760 for the US tour, with European dates yet to be confirmed.

Madame X Tour dates announced

Kicking off in New York’s BAM Howard Gilman Opera House on September 12, the Madame X Tour will visit the Chicago Theatre, the Wiltern in Los Angeles, the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, the Boch Center Wang Theatre in Boston, the Met in Philadelphia and the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theatre.

Resuming in 2020, the tour will move to Europe, visiting Lisbon’s Coliseum, London’s Palladium and Paris’ Grand Rex.

Madonna announced the tour in a YouTube video featuring a sceptical Diplo.

“People didn’t believe in Einstein either and they thought he was a crack,” she tells the DJ, after he calls her “crazy” for touring theatres.

“Have you experienced the magic of the theatre? The intimacy of the theatre?” she says.

The clip appears to have been filmed immediately after Wednesday’s (May 1) Billboard Music Awards.

Diplo appears wearing the same purple cowboy suit that he wore to the ceremony, during which Madonna performed her new single “Medellín” alongside Maluma and several holographs of herself.

On Friday, the iconoclastic singer released “I Rise”, a single commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall rebellion.

A day later, she was awarded the Advocate for Change Award from LGBT+ media monitoring organisation GLAAD.

In an emotional acceptance speech, she remembered friends lost to HIV/AIDS.

“The plague that moved in like a black cloud over New York City and in a blink of an eye,” she recalled, snapping her fingers, “took out all of my friends.”
