Sam Smith shares powerful words of advice following most challenging year yet

British singer Sam Smith has opened up in a vulnerable Instagram post, declaring that he is finally “enough” after 18 months of therapy.

The ‘How Do You Sleep?’ singer, who was forced to cancel tour dates earlier this year due to poor mental health, shared the candid post with his 13 million Instagram followers.

Sam Smith came out as non-binary in March 2019 and uses he/him pronouns.

Reflecting on what he describes as “the most challenging time” of his life, he wrote: “I’ve watched and read so much over the last six months to try and make sense of all the mess in my head.

“Tried to find ways to organise all of my problems so that they are bound and organised into folders and boxes, so that they will never haunt me or effect me again.

“I’m slowly starting to realise that the words above are the only words that really matter….and they are the words of the incredible @brenebrown …. ‘You are enough.'”

As well as reflecting on his own journey, Smith offered words of advice for fans going through similar struggles.

“Sorry to blab on. But I know we are all dealing with some really heavy s**t at times.

“And I find listening to words from strangers comforting. So hopefully sometimes I can be that stranger to you guys.”
Ending the post he said: “Now every morning and every night before you go to bed. Say these words to yourself in the mirror. I’m gonna do it to. We are in this together. Hope you’re all having a gorgeous summer x.”

Sam Smith’s Instagram post has been liked more than half a million times.
