YouTuber Valkyrae considers quitting streaming over endless social media hate

Rachel ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter has said she’s considered quitting streaming due to social media hate.
The YouTube streamer shocked fans in her stream on 27 April when she discussed pivoting into business and investing.
Just recently, Valkyrae became co-owner of gaming brand 100 Thieves. She and fellow streamer Jack ‘CouRage’ Dunlop have become synonymous with the brand and now co-own with founder Matthew ‘Nadeshot’ Haag.
Valkyrae has also been caught up in social media drama recently along with TikTok star Addison Rae and Minecraft YouTuber TommyInnit.
She was accused of removing TommyInnit from the popular Minecraft server DreamSMP by fans of Addison Rae.
The resulting hate has caused Valkyrae to reconsider her career.
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I really, really hate social media,” she said on the stream.
“I think there’s definitely going to be a time in my life where I do pivot out of social media especially. I don’t know when, I don’t know how, but it has been on my mind a lot.”
She spoke candidly about the amount of trolls, random hate and stalkers on social media platforms, especially targeting women.
“I don’t want to live this way for the rest of my life. It’s so creepy sometimes,” she said.
“Social media fame is not really fulfilling… it’s incredibly invasive.
“Especially after this whole TikTok thing, I don’t even know how I got involved in that.
“I think what makes me happiest in life is feeling safe and comfortable and I feel like social media is always so exposing and people are always looking for the worst in you.”
Speaking of pivoting towards business, she said: “I don’t know when, but it has been on my mind a lot.”
Valkyrae then posted on Twitter afterwards. “Really really really really appreciate the people who care about morals even on the internet/anonymously. You keep me going. Thank you for trying to be good.”

During both the stream and in response to the tweet, fan reaction was supportive as they appreciated her honesty.
At the start of the year Valkyrae became the most watched female streamer on the Internet. She signed exclusively from Twitch to YouTube at the start of 2020 and now has 3.35 million subscribers.
