Who died in The White Lotus season three finale – and who made it out alive?

Who died in the White Lotus, season three finale? (HBO/Max)

The White Lotus has wrapped up its third season with a suitably bonkers finale – but who didn’t make it to the end of their stay in Thailand?

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the finale/ episode eight of The White Lotus.

Heading into the third season finale of the Mike White-created satire, The White Lotus had more than a few storylines to wrap up. What would happen with Rick (Walton Goggins) on the search for his father’s killer? Would his girlfriend Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) be riddled with yet more snake-related bad luck? How would the plot of Saxon (Patrick Swarzenegger) and Lochlan’s (Sam Nivola) fraternal fiddle climax?

But above all – who would die at the end of the season, checking out of both Thailand and this life? Ratliff patriarch Timothy (Jason Isaacs) had been toying with taking himself to the White Lotus in the sky all season long, and the bitchy blonde trio’s friendship looked ready to snap – finally.

So here’s who died in The White Lotus season three, joining season one’s Murray Bartlett and season two’s Jennifer Coolidge in the hall of the slain.

The ninety minute long finale opened with Ratliff siblings Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Lochlan debating whether or not to stay in Thailand. Whereas Piper seemed previously set on the idea, she’s less sure after her stay in a monastery didn’t contain organic food, but Lochlan – who is probably running from the fact he gave his brother a handjob – is convinced.

But, the finale’s first big gag comes when Lochlan reveals that him masturbating his brother was not a drunken mistake, but something he was distinctly aware of. He tells Saxon that he didn’t want his older sibling the “feel left out” during the moment, perfectly exemplifying that there is such as a thing a too much of a people pleaser.

That freaky little twink.

That’s a sin that apparently won’t go unpunished, though; As Timothy again contemplates taking his own life as the only way out of his legal troubles, he acquires a ‘suicide fruit’, making piña coladas for his entire clan (save Lochlan) with the deadly ingredient.

He has a change of heart when they all start chugging, though, taking away the drinks to prevent a four way suicide. But the residue is still in the blender – that Lochlan laters drinks as part of a Saxon-encouraged protein shake, making him what viewers assume to be the (first) death of the finale. Rest in peace, you incestuous weirdo.

But it’s not over until the trigger gets pulled; Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn), the man that Rick confronted the previous episode, returns to the hotel fully armed and on a quest for vengeance. It doesn’t work out all that well for him though, as Rick takes his gun, shooting him point blank. Oh yeah, and it turns out that Jim was indeed Rick’s father.

And because it’s The White Lotus, the finale descends into chaos when Rick goes apesh*t, shooting two guards and devastatingly, his sweet, innocent, pure girlfriend Chelsea gets caught in the crossfire.

As he carries her lifeless body, the thus far useless hotel security guard Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) gets his gun, and puts Rick in the river as the body viewers saw at the start of the season.

And in an extra flourish, Lochlan lives – presumably to torment his brother some more.

Who died in The White Lotus season three finale?

In an unexpected twist, there was not one, not two, but five shocking deaths in The White Lotus season three, episode eight.

  • Jim, shot by Rick, his son, after a confrontation
  • Two security guards, shot by Rick during his attempted escape
  • Chelsea, accidentally shot during Rick’s attempted escape
  • Rick, shot by Gaitok during Rick’s attempted escape

Does Timothy Ratliff get arrested?

After fans theorised all season that it was death or prison for the Ratliff patriarch, a speech given by Timothy as the (entire) family board the boat to leave the resort leaves his ultimate fate up in the air.

As his family are finally reunited with their phones, he tells his clan, “Things are about to change. We’ll get through it as a family.” Hurray?

The White Lotus is available to stream on Max in the US, and will air on NOW on Monday in the UK.
