Euphoria‘s Sydney Sweeney has detailed the “amazing” transformation she went though in order to play lesbian boxer Christy Martin.

Sweeney, 27, will play the boxer in a still untitled picture documenting Martin’s rise to fame. The film is also set to cover Martin being the first breakout in US female boxing and her abusive ex-husband.

In an interview with W Magazine, Sweeney, who according to her director David Michôd gained more than 30 pounds for the role, said she “loved” the training involved.

“I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training,” she said. “I started eating, I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kick-boxed midday for about two hours and then weight-trained again at night for an hour”.

On top of that the Anyone But You actress said her body became “completely different”. She added: “I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger.

“And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong”.

In October, Sweeney shared images of herself on set as Martin. She can be seen in loose gym clothes and a brown mullet-style wig.

At the time she wrote, “Over the past few months, i’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman – a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring.
