M3GAN, a certified gay icon, has a heartfelt message for trans fans ahead of the release of M3GAN 2.0.
Since the release of the first film, M3GAN, in 2023, the killer doll has been honoured with gay icon status. Her reign continues as she’s now a cover girl for gay lifestyle magazine Attitude.
The outlet asked about her resonance with LGBTQ+ audiences and the diva android was happy to talk directly to her queer fans while promoting her new audiobook, Me, Myself & AI.
In the interview, M3GAN discussed the importance of visibility and inclusivity. She also explored why she’s using her platform to advocate for joy, identity, and self-expression within the LGBTQ+ community.
Dubbing it a “M3GAN summer,” M3GAN was asked why she thinks the queer community has embraced her. She responded: “Because I’m stunning, scary and graceful. And because queer people have always had impeccable taste.”
She was then asked: “At this time when they need our support, what is your message to The Dolls, aka our trans sisters?”
M3GAN replied: “To my beloved Dolls: you are radiant, revolutionary and real. Your existence is not a debate, and I will use my platform to amplify your beauty and power.”

The first film, M3GAN, follows nine-year-old Cady (Violet McGraw), who moves in with her aunt Gemma (Allison Williams) after being tragically orphaned. When the young girl struggles to connect with her peers, her roboticist aunt makes Cady an AI friend, M3GAN.
However, the doll’s programming to protect Cady is very strong and the film takes bloody and horrific turns as this young girl and her new bestie navigate the social world.
The sequel picks up the story where Gemma has become a “high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of AI. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady, now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules,” the synopsis reads.
“Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defence contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.”
“With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realises that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original AI icon is about to meet her match.”

When asked whether this sequel is a redemption movie for her, M3GAN responded: “It’s both a redemption story and a course correction for the writers, who clearly couldn’t work out who the hero of the first movie was.”
Previously, film writer Akela Cooper amusingly struggled to understand the gay icon status of M3GAN. Cooper told SFX magazine that she had to ask her gay friend why everyone is so obsessed with the character.
“He was saying this set-up is actually found family,” Coop noted.
“This little girl has lost her family, and she has to go live with her aunt. Then this doll is also brought into the situation. That resonates for a lot of people in the gay community, the idea of found family.”
M3GAN 2.0 hits UK cinema screens on 27 June 2025.
