Superman star Nicholas Hoult has said doing this with on-screen arch-nemesis David Corenswet made him feel ‘warm inside’.
Before you read any further, we’d like to request that you, dear reader, get your mind out of the gutter.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s proceed.
X-Men star Nicholas Hoult is set to return to the big screen in James Gunn’s Superman as bald bad guy Lex Luther, in a reboot of the caped crusader’s on-screen adventures, with Hollywood‘s David Corenswet in the titular lycra-clad role.
The pair will portray the decades-old rivalry between the DC comic book characters, presumably coming to blows more than once in the film, which will hit cinemas 11 July.
But while Luthor and Superman aren’t the biggest fans of each other, the same clearly can’t be said for Hoult and Corenswet, with the former revealing that he was “held by” the latter after being prompted by his wife, actor Bryana Holly.
Speaking on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepherd podcast, Hoult revealed: “I was chatting to my wife and she was like: ‘It’s so nice to be held by someone bigger than you. You don’t really get that, do you?’ And I was like: ‘No, I guess I don’t.’
“And she was like: ‘David could hold you.’ And I was like: ‘Yeah, he probably could. I did [ask him]. And it felt warm inside.”
See? Absolutely nothing untoward going on between the two Superman stars.
This isn’t the first time that Superman has raised the collective eyebrow of the internet, with a ‘first look’ image released in May being heralded as looking “like a gay porn parody” by Gay Twitter.
Hoult and Corenswet will be joined by Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, The Last of Us‘s Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan and Nathan Fillion in further superpowered roles.
The plot, while largely under wraps, sees the titular hero grapple with balancing his Kryptonian heritage and his adoptive human family, while going up against Luthor and the other baddies seen in several trailers.
