Gay billionaire Sam Altman has accused Democrats of “losing the plot”.
Writing on X/Twitter, the chief executive and co-founder of OpenAI, said: “I’m not big on identities but I am extremely proud to be American. This is true every day but especially today. I firmly believe this is the greatest country on Earth. The American miracle stands alone in world history.
“I also believe that education is critically important to keeping the American edge. I believed this when I was 20, when I was 30, and now I am 40 still believe it.
“The Democratic Party seemed reasonably aligned with it when I was 20, losing the plot when I was 30, and completely to have moved somewhere else at this point.

“So now, I am politically homeless. But that’s fine, I care much, much more about being American than any political party.”
Altman added that he wanted to hear candidates willing “to make everyone have the stuff billionaires have instead of how they are going to eliminate billionaires”.
His post comes after his public fallout with fellow tech billionaire Elon Musk, who has threatened to create the America Party as a challenge the Republican and Democratic “uniparty”. President Donald Trump has called the idea “ridiculous”.
In February, Altman and his husband Oliver Mulherin welcomed a baby boy into the world.
Altman first signalled that he and Mulherin were expecting a child in a January episode of the Re: Thinking podcast.
He and his husband married in late 2023 during an intimate ceremony at an estate in Hawaii. Photos of the couple’s private wedding were shared in January 2024. Altman later confirmed the marriage to NBC News after the photographs leaked
In 2023, Altman said to New York Magazine that he and Mulherin had expressed a desire to have a child and to start a family at their home in San Francisco.
