Sophia Hutchins, the close friend and long-time manager of transgender I Am Cait star and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner, died after suffering “multiple blunt force injuries” in a crash earlier this month.
The cause of death of Sophia Hutchins was revealed in a death certificate from the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health, obtained by publication PEOPLE.
Hutchins, 29, died on Wednesday 2 July after crashing her All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) into the back of a moving car, near Jenner’s home in Malibu, California.
The ATV then left the road and fell 350 feet down a ravine. Hutchins was pronounced dead at the scene by medical professionals, while two passengers in the other vehicle were left uninjured.
Hutchins’ death has been ruled an accident, though the case remains open.
Further details shared by sergeant Eduardo Saucedo, from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department out of Malibu, suggest that Hutchins “may have been speeding” at the time of the collision.
“It looks like she may have been speeding and rear-ended the other car, the other party, and then that caused her to veer to the right and go off the cliff,” Saucedo told the Daily Mail.
The sergeant revealed that 75-year-old Jenner was at the site of the accident by the time authorities arrived, with one source telling RadarOnline that the media personality has been left “absolutely devastated” and “numb with shock” over Hutchins’ death.

Sophia Hutchins was a transgender businesswoman and the manager of Keeping Up With Kardashians star and controversial Donald Trump supporter Caitlyn Jenner.
Hutchins and Jenner were introduced by their mutual hairdresser in 2015, around the same time that Jenner came out as trans.
She went on to become the star’s manager and was formerly the chief executive officer of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, an organisation which Jenner formed to “promote equality and combat discrimination” for trans people.
Hutchins had also appeared in Jenner’s show I Am Cait, and was a businesswoman in her own right, having founded a sunscreen company.
The pair reportedly lived together in Jenner’s Malibu mansion, though they had denied on numerous occasions that they were in a romantic relationship.
In a 2018 conversation with The Hidden Truth podcast, Hutchins said she “wouldn’t describe [their relationship] as romantic”.
“I would describe it as: we’re partners, business partners,” she said.
“We have so much in common and see the world so similarly, and are both such a good match for each other because we challenge each other. We’re partners in everything we do – we’re inseparable, we’re business partners, we live together, we share a dog, we share family, we share a life together.”
